Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around with a light double pushchair, especially if you have kids of different ages. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and over stairs.
This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, large UPF 50+ canopy, and peekaboo windows. It also has frames that can be expanded in the width to accommodate an additional car seat or another passenger.
Side-by-Side
The majority of lightweight double pushchairs we've tested are side-by-side designs and they're generally best for children who can stand up without assistance, as these models tend to be lacking car seat integration. However, the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both excellent options that offer recline that can be adjusted in both seats, a wide canopy, and padded five-point harnesses. They are also simple to move around despite their bigger footprint. They are perfect for parents who fret about fitting through doors.
The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because it features a unique frame that can be expanded to allow for an additional child seat. This makes it smaller than other side-byside pushchairs. It can fit through doors of standard size and is easy to maneuver in public transport. It also doubles as a jogger which is great news if you want to use it with baby carriers or a car seat. It's available in a variety of exciting colors.
Another great side-by-side, lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which offers even more flexibility and customization thanks to its modular frame. It has a smart design that allows you to convert it into a single buggy or a double by incorporating 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even take twins). double pram and pushchair is a practical option for growing families. The umbrella stroller UPPAbaby is one of the lightest, most stylish and fashionable strollers you can find.
Try the egg2 which folds down to the size and weight of a tiny suitcase. It can be used either as a single or double by adding two carrycots or baby car seats. Our test subjects were awed by how easy it was to move, even with a full load of children.
Side-by-side pushchairs that are lightweight aren't foolproof however -- if your children are of the same age or stage, they might still argue over who rides in which seat. If they're at different heights, then a tandem style may be the best option for them, since it allows them to face eachother.
Tandem
While side-by-side models are more suitable for siblings who are the same age tandem pushchairs that are lightweight have their own charms. Some can fit an extra car seat, while others come with reversible seats. Some even come with an additional carrycot or reversible seat in the middle. They are more spacious and are easier to get in and out of. However, their baskets tend to be smaller than those found on single buggies. They often have larger large canopies that have peekaboo windows and a cup holder for parents and cushioned leg cushions for the young children.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another good example of a lightweight tandem that offers excellent value. Its fabrics feel a little less premium than some of our other top-rated tandems, but it looks and feels great and is very easy to use. Its one-handed folding is awe-inspiring. While it requires some practice, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". The carrycot is not foldable while it is attached. However, the process to attach and remove the carrycot is quick and easy.
Tandem double pushchairs are light and lightweight. They typically make tighter turns than side-by-side models, however they are more challenging to drive over uneven surfaces and curbs. They may also be slow to speed up and are heavier to move, which can put stress on your back.
Another option is a convertible double buggy that starts out as an individual and then you can add adapters to make it into a double. It can have a second seat or carrycot in front or the kids can be seated side-byside. Some also have the option to add buggy boards, which could help older children keep up with a younger sibling.
The Uppababy Vista V2 can be converted into a twin-sized pram by purchasing additional cocoons for PS59 each. The cocoons create an area that is flat for newborns. These can be placed side by side or attached to face each other and you can use them in conjunction with the baby car seat that is included with the pushchair (as long as you choose an appropriate one). These buggies for dual-use are made of high-quality materials and can last for a long time without showing any wear. This means that they have the highest resale value.
Single-to-Double
For families who love the outdoors and are looking to upgrade their single stroller, this lightweight double buggy transforms into a jogger thanks to a nifty kit that includes air-filled tyres, as well as all-wheel suspension. It also handles rough terrain well and is a tandem triple, is perfect for twins or children of various age groups. It's also a great choice for parents who want an elegant design that's as sleek as a single, and is available in a range of colors for the fabric.
We were impressed by the way this iCandy model folds up with just one hand, making it very easy to master. It's also heavier than the other pushchairs that are single-to-double in this review, home tester Karolina claimed that it feels extremely maneuverable, even with two toddlers and a carrycot in it.
The seat can be used parent-facing and you can purchase additional accessories for this stroller, such as the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) that are perfect for newborns. The seats are comfortable for toddlers with good headrests and lumbar support. And there are plenty of options for recline, with the front seat adjusting to various positions, and the rear seat having a recline option.
The biggest drawback with this type of buggy is that it is generally wider overall than side-by-side doubles which makes it more difficult to navigate through doorways and can be tricky to maneuver around kerbs. However the suspension and wheels on these types of strollers generally do a good job of coping with paved surfaces and the fact that they're lighter than the side-by-sides, means you still find plenty of storage space. It's important to keep in mind that these types of strollers aren't as efficient in getting through narrow aisles in supermarkets and aren't able to handle a large amount of shopping. It's a little easier to turn them around on the smallest of curved paths, but even this can be a challenge. Some are also more easy to turn than others, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for example.

Convertible
Convertible double pushchairs are ideal because they can be adjusted to the changing requirements of the family. They are typically single buggies, and include adapters to add the second seat, a carrycot or (in certain instances) a car seat to the frame. Some of them can be converted back to a single buggie when your child gets older and starts to walk more or prefers to ride on buggy boards.
One of the lightest double strollers we have on our list, this fashionable tri-fold model can carry children up to 40 lbs each. It comes with a handy basket in between the seats to store things. The spacious canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining chairs and a front and back suspension for smoother riding on rough terrain were appreciated by home testers. It also has a convenient parent cup holder and an ample, easily accessible basket. However, they noticed that the backs of the seats have tiny pockets that aren't big enough to hold much more than a smartphone and keys.
This light, high-end side-byside is available in more than 20 different configurations. It also comes with a second seat and carrycot. Its impressive feature set includes a handlebar with a high-profile design for easier steering; front and rear suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing, compact fold that has straps for easy schlepping and seven-inch swing lock front wheels and back wheels that measure 10 inches with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.
This versatile tandem is a top choice from our home testers due to its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket that is accessible from both seats facing the parent. It is simple to maneuver due to its low weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). Many people praise the clever method of attaching the second seat or riding board at the back. Parents also liked the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seats from various brands, including some that don't normally fit into other double buggies.
